About the Dragon Awards

"The City Dragon with its shield has guarded the boundaries of the City of London for centuries."

The Lord Mayor is the head of the City of London Corporation, which provides local government services for the financial and commercial heart of Britain, the ‘Square Mile’. As part of his responsibilities, the Lord Mayor oversees the annual Dragon Awards scheme which celebrates Corporate Community Involvement. It recognises businesses and public offices that go above and beyond their core work to significantly impact the regeneration of their local communities.

Everything that you need to apply for an Award can be found on this website.

Since they were founded in 1987, the Dragon Awards have attracted high quality applications from a variety of companies and public bodies throughout Greater London. Dragon Award winners recognise both the social and business benefits of being good corporate citizens.

All applicants are invited to an annual awards ceremony hosted by the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House. This prestigious event presents a chance for applicants to share experiences and innovative practices in Corporate Community Involvement. It is an opportunity to find out more about ways in which London-based businesses are actively helping to fight social exclusion and build stronger communities.

Winners of Dragon Awards receive a highly coveted Dragon Statuette, local and national press coverage and the recognition amongst their peers and competitors as offering exemplary programmes of Corporate Community Involvement. One of the winners will also be chosen to host a visit from the Lord Mayor.

The Dragon Awards form one part of the City Corporation’s commitment to engaging firms in the regeneration of their local communities as it is recognised that the City will not prosper in isolation. Also forming important parts of its corporate responsibility function are the Corporation’s City Action (a flagship employee volunteering matchmaking service) and its support of Heart of the City (a charity offering support for companies in the City and City fringe that are interested in Corporate Social Responsibility).
