Seeking Green Businesses to Attend a Roundtable Event
The Corporate Responsibility Team at the City of London Corporation is seeking green sector professionals to attend a roundtable event on the future work of GreenSpace.
GreenSpace has been working across the green sector to create a new way of bringing funding to improve the environment of our towns and cities across the country. Many local authorities are struggling to provide quality parks and green spaces services – services that most of the public regularly use and see as fundamental to their lives. Less than 5% of all charitable giving goes to the environment and almost none of it to public space. We would like to find innovative ways in which to engage businesses and individuals to contribute more to this cause. We see the creation of a national ‘brand’ for parks and green spaces, Green Places, as a crucial step towards competing more effectively with other charitable causes by raising its public profile and demonstrating its value and need.
The Green Places Fund seeks to stimulate the growth of ‘green’ giving on a town and city-wide model where communities, business, local NGOs and the local authority are encouraged to work in partnership to improve and manage parks and green spaces. At present, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham and Birmingham are engaged.
GreenSpace aims to develop a match funding pot to stimulate local giving and is inviting green sector professionals to a roundtable meeting to provide thoughts, insight and expertise on this initiative.
